11-Year Old Organic Food Activist Explains What's Wrong With Our Nation's Food System

Eleven-year old Birke Baehr has a lot to say about our nation's defunct food system and it's perking the ears of parents and kids alike. He talks the specifics of genetically modified foods and how they have been proven to cause cancer in lab animals. He goes on to explain a scary truth; almost all the corn that we eat has been genetically modified and that corn is an ingredient in the majority of the processed foods that we eat. That's why nearly 70 percent of processed foods on the market are genetically modified.
This young eco-activist has knowledge far beyond his years, especially with regards to the chemicals that end up in the foods that we eat. The pesticides and herbicides sprayed on fruits and vegetables seep into our ground water systems and pollute rivers and streams across the country.
"A while back I wanted to be an NFL football player, but now I want to be an organic farmerinstead," he says. "That way, I can have a greater impact on the world."
While the farmers' market may be a little more expensive this 11-year old contends that "we can either pay the farmer or we can pay the hospital." Well said young man, well said.
